Aikido

Zanshinkan Dojo, Northwestern University Aikido Club.

The Northwestern University Aikido Club, later known also as Zanshinkan Dojo, was the first branch dojo established by Shihan Fumio Toyoda, in 1974, after establishing his own headquarters dojo in Chicago. It became one of the charter members of Toyoda-sensei's Aikido Association of America, later also affiliated with the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan. In 2002, after Toyoda-sensei's passing in 2001, the Northwestern University Aikido Club became affiliated with Aikido Shinjinkai, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.

Here are some images celebrating Zanshinkan Dojo's 25th anniversary, as well as a few words in gratitude to my distinguished shihan. Here, too, are some aikido-related documents: a basic introduction, a list of basic attacks, a list of basic defenses, a list of basic exercises, a long glossary of terminology, and suggestions for further reading. Some video clips of selected techniques can be found here, as well.
